After a brief introduction to the journey ahead, we’ll board a comfortable Tempo Traveller/SUV and begin our scenic drive towards the beautiful Himalayan town of Dirang.

Leaving the bustling city behind, the landscape gradually transforms into lush green countryside, winding highways, and picturesque villages of Assam. As the journey unfolds, you’ll witness the natural beauty that makes Northeast India one of the country’s most spectacular travel destinations.

Our first major stop is Bhairabkunda, a peaceful destination located near the Assam–Bhutan border. Surrounded by rivers and forested hills, it provides the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs, enjoy the fresh air, and capture some memorable photographs. For a unique experience, we’ll also make a short visit towards the Bhutan border (subject to local regulations and operational conditions), adding an exciting international touch to the beginning of your adventure.

Continuing our journey, we enter Arunachal Pradesh through Balemu, where the Inner Line Permit (ILP) verification and document checks are completed. Once the formalities are finished, the road begins to climb into the Eastern Himalayas, revealing breathtaking mountain scenery, dense forests, and winding roads that make this route a favourite among road-trip enthusiasts.

En route, we’ll stop at the beautiful Tenzin Gaon View Point, where panoramic views of the surrounding valleys provide an excellent introduction to the landscapes that await over the coming days. Today, you’ll ride through some of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in India as you make your way towards the breathtaking town of Tawang.

Before leaving Dirang, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the peaceful Dirang Monastery, a serene Buddhist monastery that offers beautiful views of the surrounding valley. The calm atmosphere and traditional architecture provide a perfect start to the day’s journey.

As the road begins to climb higher into the Himalayas, we’ll stop at the historic Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to the brave Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, whose extraordinary courage during the 1962 Indo-China War remains an inspiration. The memorial is one of the most significant landmarks on every Tawang Bike Trip and offers fascinating insights into the region’s history.

Continuing our ascent, we reach the magnificent Se La Pass, situated at approximately 13,700 feet above sea level. Since Arunachal Pradesh experiences one of the earliest sunrises in India, we’ll begin our day early to make the most of our sightseeing.

Our first destination is the serene P.T. Tso Lake, a crystal-clear high-altitude lake surrounded by rugged Himalayan mountains. The calm waters, cool mountain breeze, and dramatic landscapes create the perfect setting for photography and a peaceful start to the day.

From here, we’ll continue towards the legendary Bumla Pass, situated at an altitude of approximately 15,200 feet near the Indo-China border. This historic mountain pass holds immense strategic importance and offers one of the most memorable experiences of the entire Tawang Bike Trip. Surrounded by snow-covered peaks and breathtaking valleys, Bumla Pass provides spectacular views that showcase the untouched beauty of the Eastern Himalayas.

After spending time at Bumla Pass, we’ll ride back towards one of Tawang’s most photographed attractions—Sangetsar Lake, popularly known as Madhuri Lake. Formed after an earthquake, the lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters and the unique tree trunks rising from its surface. Surrounded by towering mountains and pristine landscapes, it offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and photographers alike.

Our journey then continues to the iconic Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and one of the most significant Buddhist monasteries in the world. Next, we’ll visit the sacred Dolma Lhakhang (Tara Devi Temple), a beautiful Buddhist temple dedicated to Goddess Tara. Our first stop is Kenzi Mani – Lhasa Dwar, an important Buddhist landmark that welcomes travellers with beautifully carved mani stones and colourful prayer flags.
