Duration: 4 Nights and 5 Days

Kedarkantha Trek Short Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri (1,980m)
    • 10-11 hour drive. Meet at Dehradun Railway Station (6-7 AM). Overnight in tents.
  • Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab (2,773m)
    • 4 km trek (4-5 hours). Trek through oak forests and streams. Evening by the serene lake.
  • Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base (3,430m)
    • 4 km trek (3 hours). Hike through pine forests and enjoy mountain views.
  • Day 4: Base Camp to Kedarkantha Peak (3,810m) & Descent to Hargaon
    • 6 km trek (7 hours). Summit the peak, visit Shiva Temple, and descend to Hargaon campsite.
  • Day 5: Hargaon to Sankri, Drive to Dehradun
    • Morning descent to Sankri, followed by a 1-2 PM drive back to Dehradun.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri

  • Altitude: 1,980m
  • Time Taken: 10-11 hours

Arrive at Dehradun Railway Station between 6 AM and 7 AM, where you’ll meet our representative. Begin your scenic drive to Sankri by taxi, a journey of about 10-11 hours. Once you reach Sankri, settle in for a delicious dinner. Prepare your gear for the trek, as you’ll be starting early the next morning. Spend your first night under the stars in tents.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab

  • Altitude: 1,980m to 2,773m
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Time Taken: 4-5 hours

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before heading toward Juda Ka Talab. Pass through Sankri village and its extension, Sor, before the trail ascends sharply towards Kedarkantha. Along the way, enjoy crossing small bridges, spotting Himalayan langurs, and walking through dense oak forests. Upon reaching Juda Ka Talab, marvel at the serene surroundings—a perfect spot to unwind. Spend your evening exploring the area and enjoy snacks and dinner at the campsite before settling into your tents for the night.

Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp

  • Altitude: 2,773m to 3,430m
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Time Taken: 3 hours

After breakfast, the trek continues through lush pine and oak forests. The trail gradually becomes steeper, leading to higher altitudes where you might spot snow patches during winter. Take breaks along the way to soak in the views of Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Naag, and Ranglana peaks. Upon reaching the Kedarkantha Base Camp, relax and take in the breathtaking panoramic scenery.

Day 4: Kedarkantha Base Camp to Kedarkantha Peak, Descent to Hargaon

  • Altitude: 3,430m to 3,810m
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Time Taken: 7 hours

Today is the highlight of your trek! Begin early to witness the mesmerizing sunrise from Kedarkantha meadows. Trek through oak forests, gradually making your way to Kedarkantha Peak. The last stretch is challenging but rewarding, with the summit offering stunning views and a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. After soaking in the beauty at the peak, descend back to Hargaon campsite. Spend the evening relaxing or gathering around a campfire with your fellow trekkers.

Day 5: Hargaon Camp to Sankri, Drive to Dehradun

  • Altitude: 3,810m to 1,980m

Begin your final descent after breakfast, trekking through lush pine forests and enjoying picturesque views of Har Ki Dun Valley along the ridge. Once you reach Sankri, freshen up and take some time to explore the village. Around 1-2 PM, start your drive back to Dehradun with a heart full of memories and a sense of accomplishment.

Can we go Kedarkantha trek without guide?

Even the trail is not difficult to climb. Mostly you would have to cross-forest areas that are well marked and even solo trekkers can navigate the trail easily. The climb to the Kedarkantha summit is covered in snow in winter and this might be a little tricky without a guide.
